Walt Petersen, Founder, Owner and Broker in Charge of Mountain Select Properties of Ashe, has proudly called Ashe County home for 28+ years, moving here shortly after honeymooning in the area with his “bride” Dee in the summer of 1980. Ashe County has certainly proven to be the “perfect place” and is now and always will be home for the Petersen’s, Walt, Dee, Scooter and Sunny

Walt became a Realtor/Broker in 1987 and soon realized he had found his true life’s passion. He earned the GRI, Graduate Realtor Institute, designation in 1999 and the highly respected CRS designation, Certified Residential Specialist, in 2004. After several productive years with areas firms, and a seven year side step into resort real estate sales and management at Jefferson Landing, he joined in a business partnership and opened Regency Properties in March 2001 as Co-Owner and Broker in Charge. The first year brought in some $8 million in sales, and by 2006 sales had increased to $30 million plus. 2006 proved to be an even more incredible year with extraordinary sales growth and personal recognition for Walt as one of the top sales and listing producers in Ashe County. He was also honored to be President of the Ashe County Board of Directors for the year, a challenging yet rewarding opportunity for learning and growth.

However, as 2006 came to a close “Walt’s Dream” returned, the exciting dream of having his own real estate firm, and today that dream is reality, it is now Mountain Select Properties of Ashe. With a strong team of proven Brokers joining him and totally supportive of his efforts 2007 proved to be a very rewarding and successful year. As we go into 2008 Mountain Select Properties of Ashe begins a new adventure as ERA Mountain Select Properties. After much learning, consideration for his staff, and more specifically consideration for those coming to Mountain Select Properties for their real estate needs, Walt decided to pursue an opportunity with ERA Real Estate. "What they can bring to the table in the way of marketing and internet presence far surpasses what I could possibly do as an individual". I am certain there will be continued and unprecedented opportunities to build relationships and help truly wonderful people with all their real estate needs and we can do it much better through ERA as ERA Mountain Select Properties. There will certainly be many blessings along the way, opportunities for all to be appreciative and to express their gratitude and thanks.

Walt has been very happily married for 28 years to his wonderful, loving wife Dee. Dee (a 15 year breast cancer survivor) has her own business, Great to Be Alive, a Wellness Consulting and Personal Coaching business based on the Total Success Institute methodology. Walt and Dee enjoy three (3) very special grandchildren, Ben-11, Sam-9 and Hannah-5, along with son Chris and wife Amy currently residing in Cary, North Carolina. Children at home include Sunny (a wonderful 100 lb chocolate lab) and Scooter (a mixed breed ) the alpha dog of the clan. They eagerly provide hours and hours of laughter and present moment enjoyment just being dogs! Yes, life in Ashe County is great!
