Several months back Walt Petersen, Owner and Broker in Charge of Mountain Select Properties of Ashe, was asked to join a group of concerned Ashe Countians and become involved in the grassroot efforts to create an Ashe County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity International.

Realizing a countywide need for more affordable housing, this group of concerend citizens met to consider the possibilities of creating a Habitat Steering Committee and as discussion continued it became obvious all were in support and agreed there was certainly a need for Habitat housing in the county. Many spoke of personal experiences with friends, and acquaintances, and a housing need that just could not be met at this time.

From this grass roots effort a new Habitat for Humanity Chapter is now in the works, our Board of Directors is complete with Walt Petersen as the first President, our Steering Committe is complete, our 501C3 corportation is about complete and we have met the International Habitat criteria for becoming and official part of the organziation.

And today we have a dream, our New Hope Community...a 146 acre parcel in nearby Lansing, from which we hope to create a unique community for a select and needy group of local citizens...a comunity with affordable housing built with personal sweat equity, common areas, a community center, walking trails and more. Yes, a New Hope Community!
